Inspiring the transition to “independent reader”

The 4th grade is a big transition year as your young reader moves from learning to read … to reading for comprehension. It’s natural to want to help your child succeed, and Sylvan is a great place to turn for reading help.

With your child’s personal assessment and learning plan as a guide, our 4th grade reading tutors ensure your child learns the reading skills he or she needs, while encouraging independence, confidence and self-motivation. We focus on reading comprehension, fluency (reading out loud), phonics and vocabulary — skills that will accelerate your child’s learning for years to come.

With our 4th grade reading tutoring, your child will learn key reading concepts and skills such as:

Fluency

  • Read grade-level texts with accuracy and aloud at a natural pace
  • Understand how punctuation impacts fluency
