Our tutors and staff in West Richardson consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in West Richardson know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Erin Burke
Director of Education
Erin oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors. A graduate of Texas Woman’s University, where she earned her Bachelors’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Erin holds a teaching certificate for grades EC-6. She is passionate about helping kids achieve success and loves seeing the growth students make at Sylvan. In her free time, Erin enjoys game nights with friends and working out.
Joyce Dunn
Teacher
Joyce is a teacher at Sylvan Learning of West Richardson who loves helping students become successful. While Joyce has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in math tutoring. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Langston University, and her Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. Joyce comes from a family of educators, and believes all children can learn. When she isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find Joyce volunteering with various organizations, including Kids Hope, Project MALE and the food pantry.
Mark Pierce
Teacher
Mark is a great teacher and part of our Sylvan Learning team in Richardson. Mark has a gift for working with kids. While he has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in teaching theatre, reading and writing. Mark studied at Boston College, where he earned his Bachelors Degree. He earned his Masters Degree in Education from Texas A&M Commerce, and his PhD at Southern Methodist University. When Mark isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him performing at open mic nights.
James Anderson
Tutor
James is a tutor with a love for math, science and computer science, that he wants to share with students. He became a tutor at Sylvan to engage students and help them develop a love for learning. He also loves helping people and problem solving–in education he gets to do both! James is currently a student at the University of Texas at Dallas, where he is pursuing a computer science degree and teaching certification.
Raima Hossain
Tutor
Raima is a math and science tutor at Sylvan Learning of West Richardson. She’s currently studying Biology at the University of Texas-Dallas. She has a passion for helping others, and loves to see students learn. Raima is also passionate about art, and loves painting.
