Our tutors and staff in Denton and Corinth consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Denton and Corinth know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Holly Martin
Center Director
Mrs. Martin earned her Bachelors of Education degree from Baylor University. She has worked at Sylvan since August of 2000. Prior to Sylvan, she was a Math & Science teacher for Irving ISD. In her free time, Mrs. Martin enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for her is getting to see success and joy in the eyes of her Sylvan students and parents!
Rebecca Smith
DIRECTOR
Ms. Smith earned her Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of North Texas. She has worked at Sylvan since May of 2018. Prior to working at Sylvan, she home schooled her children as well as five other children. She also worked in private practice doing speech therapy. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for Rebecca is seeing the “ah ha” moments when a student learns a new concept!
Suzanne McGinnis
Tutor
Mrs. McGinnis earned her bachelors degree from Texas Wesleyan University and Masters of Education degree from North Texas State University. She has worked at the Sylvan of Denton since February of 2005. Prior to Sylvan, she was a teacher in Garland ISD for 30 years. In her free time, Mrs. McGinnis enjoys reading and traveling. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for her is the interaction she has with Reading and Math students.
Rashid Rahman
Tutor
Mr. Rahman earned his bachelors degree from the University of North Texas. He has worked at the Sylvan of Denton since August of 2004. Prior to Sylvan, he was a teacher in Krum and Decatur ISD and currently teaches at Aubrey H.S. In his free time, Mr. Rahman enjoys watching CNN for news related to business and politics. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for him is to see his Math, SAT/ACT and Homework Support students succeeding and happy to learn new skills.
Jaime Compton
Tutor
Ms. Compton earned her Bachelors degree from Auburn University and her Masters degree in Educational Technology from the University of North Texas. She has worked at the Sylvan of Denton since August of 2006. Prior to Sylvan, she was a Math teacher in Gainesville ISD for 5 years. In her free time, Ms. Compton enjoys reading and photography. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for her is getting to know her Reading, Math and SAT/ACT students.
Janet Baria
Tutor
Mrs. Baria earned her bachelors degree from Brigham Young University and her masters degree from Texas Womens University. She has worked at Sylvan since October of 2003. She is currently the Library Media Specialist with Lewisville ISD. In her free time she enjoys yoga, reading and playing the piano. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for Mrs. Baria is when she sees her Reading and Math students gain confidence in their academic abilities.
Jean Anderson
Tutor
Ms. Anderson earned her bachelors degree from North Texas State University. She has worked at the Sylvan of Denton since July of 2012. Prior to Sylvan, she was an elementary teacher in Florida and Texas for over 40 years! In her free time, Ms. Anderson enjoys being with her family. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for her is being able to share the enthusiasm of learning with her Reading and Math students and to inspire them to accept challenges and take intellectual risks.
Maryan Green
TUTOR
Ms. Green earned her Bachelor and Masters degree from Southern Methodist University. Ms. Green has worked at Sylvan since November 2012. Prior to Sylvan, she was a teacher for 18 years and counselor for 11 years with Dallas ISD. In her free time, Ms. Green enjoys reading, cooking, watching television and visiting with family. The most rewarding part of Sylvan for her is to see students strive for success!
Kent Hall
Tutor
Mr. Hall earned his Bachelors degree from the Texas A&M University. He has worked at the Sylvan of Denton since September of 2012. Prior to Sylvan, he taught at Lake Dallas High School for 31 years. In his free time, Mr. Hall enjoys writing. The most rewarding part of Sylvan is seeing a Homework Support student understand a topic.
