Our tutors and staff in Roosevelt Blvd consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Roosevelt Blvd know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Lynne Zayas
Center Director
Lynne serves the dual roles of Center Director and Director of Education at Sylvan. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, she grew up in New Jersey, where she lives with her husband and children. After graduating from St. Joseph’s University with degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology, she was a classroom teacher for several years before making the move to Supplementary Education. She has worked with Sylvan for almost twenty years. With over three decades of experience in supplemental education, , Lynne recognizes the importance of staying current in the ever-changing field of education. Lynne can often be found sitting at her desk teaching math to students, a job she loves!
AMY
READING SPECIALIST
Amy Mendelsohn, who is originally from Louisiana, is one of our diligent Reading Specialists at the Sylvan Learning Center. She double majored in Elementary Education and Sociology for her Bachelor of Arts. She then received her Master’s in Education, with a concentration in Reading. Amy is fairly new to our Sylvan family but has grown in more ways than one. Her methods of implementing interventions and scaffolding education have been well received by students. When Amy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her participating in ultimate frisbee, gardening, or hiking.
SHAMEIKA
Head Teacher
Shameika, also known as ‘Sham,’ has been a member of our Sylvan family for almost five years now! She is originally from New York City and has a gift for working with kids. She studied at The Pennsylvania State University. She is also fluent in Spanish and English and comes from a loving Latino family. When Shameika isn’t at Sylvan, you can find her spending time with her many pets. Currently, she has adopted three cats and one dog.
Maureen
Teacher
Maureen graduated from Little Flower High School and Holy Family University where she majored in Elementary Education. She spent many years in a classroom and is now devoting herself to our center. Maureen has worked at Sylvan for almost 20 years now, where she gets a chance to continue enriching the lives of students. She fills her free time reading mysteries, attending Zumba, yoga, strength and fitness classes, and spending time with her grandchildren.
