Our tutors and staff in Bowling Green consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Bowling Green know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Joseph Skousen
Center Director
Director
Joseph loves teaching kids and helping them achieve their academic potential. He has a BFA in Acting and an MA in International Relations. Joseph has worked as a teacher for over a decade, in theater, piano, voice, reading, writing, math, and College prep, including at Sylvan.
Lauren Albright
Teacher
Lauren is a student at Bowling Green State University majoring in education. Her favorite part about working at Sylvan is seeing the excitement from students when they master a challenging skill. In her free time, Lauren enjoys reading and spending time outside.
Blake Altman
Teacher
Blake Altman is a Bowling Green native and proud BGSU graduate who loves teaching, especially in his chosen field of English and reading. He is an avid reader, obsessive movie buff, and prides himself on knowing a little bit about everything. When not teaching, reading, or watching movies, he spends the rest of his time with his wife and son.
Will Brandt
Teacher
Will loves working with students no matter the age, but especially loves teaching high school math. He currently teaches Algebra and Statistics at Woodmore High School. Will’s hobbies includes games, reading, and baking.
Kat Brown
Teacher
Kat is a computer programmer and video game developer who moved to Bowling Green to attend college. Kat loves working with kids and helping them obtain the tools they need to effectively teach themselves anything. When it comes to tutoring, this means anything from reading and writing to how to make their very own video game. Outside of work, Kat is also a writer, artist, musician, game designer, video and audio editor, and has dabbled in just about any other skill you can imagine.
Marisa Faass
Teacher / Intervention Specialist
Outside of Sylvan, Marisa also works as an Intervention Specialist specializing in autism. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and watching TV. Her favorite thing about working at Sylvan is getting to meet and help so many amazing students.
Melody Ontko
Teacher
Melody is a retired Intervention Specialist. She’s married with two daughters and three grandchildren. She enjoys reading, DIY acrylic painting on canvas, crocheting, and counted cross-stitch. She joined Sylvan Learning as a tutor because she wanted to continue to educate children. Melody really likes tutoring and appreciates the children and families.
Natalie Stitak
Teacher
Natalie not only works at Sylvan, but is also a history teacher at Terra State Community College and Tiffin University. Some of her favorite classes to teach are Irish/Scottish History and the History of Rock and Roll. In her free time, Natalie plays guitar, viola, and ukulele, sings, and writes songs. She also likes to dance ballet and does yoga to relax. But her favorite activity is spending time with her cute dog, Lola. She is part poodle and part shih-poo and is five pounds! Natalie likes working at Sylvan because she gets to work with great students and have fun while teaching.
