Tina Herrera

Owner, Executive Director

Mrs. Herrera has worked for Sylvan Learning for over 10 years.  Way to go, Tina!  She served as Center Director for Sylvan Learning in Henderson, NV before opening her own center in the Mtn’s Edge/Southern Highlands community. Community involvement is very important to her.  Mrs. Herrera graduated with a B.S. in Human Resources Management, and MBA in Public Administration/ Finance. A former high school teacher, Tina loves working with young people.  Her goal is leading her wonderful TEAM by providing exceptional tutoring services in Las Vegas. In her spare time, Tina enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, and playing with her “fur baby” Rex.

Brenda Ellis

LEAD Teacher / Reading Tutor

Brenda is our lead reading teacher at Sylvan Learning of Blue Diamond.  Ms. Ellis has worked with Sylvan for over 16 years, teaching basic reading skills, and early learning fundamental reading and writing techniques.   Before joining the Sylvan family, Brenda taught for 30 plus years in New Jersey.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from W.V. State University.  Students love working with Ms. Ellis! She has the patience and experience to bring out the very best in her students.  When she is not at the center, Brenda enjoys her “quite time” at home, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Grover Prowell

Math Tutor

Grover is our lead math and science tutor with a gift and expertise for teaching high-level math.  Mr. Prowell has over 20 years experience in teaching and tutoring mathematics and related sciences. One of his greatest gifts is his ability to simplify complex math and science problems into easy to understand applications and language.  Grover has a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from San Jose State University and a master’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Reno.  Mr. Prowell worked as a meteorologist on the Yucca Mountain Project.  In his spare time he likes to bike, take dance lessons with his wife, and enjoys his Toastmasters meetings.

Rose Reasons

Math Tutor

Rose is the newest addition to our team!  Rose is a dynamic math tutor who previously worked at another Sylvan Learning location in Nevada.  We are most fortunate to have Rose join our team. Rose is an education mathematics major at Nevada State College. Ms. Reasons works especially well with younger and older students helping them gain a greater understanding of challenging math problems. In her free time, Rose enjoys playing board games, and video games with her friends, listening to “new” music crocheting an collecting. Way to go, Rose!

Norma Ellis

Administrative Assistant

Norma loves greeting the families that come to Sylvan for help tutoring their children.  She enjoys working with kids and watching them learn and grow. Norma is the “ideal” people person who naturally provides top notch customer service to all our familes!  When Norma is not working, she is at the gym or traveling to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John Herrera

Operations Manager

John is our wonderful Operations Manager who works with various vendors to ensure operations run smoothly. Mr. Herrera brings over 30 years experience to the job.  John is bilingual/English & Spanish.  In his spare time, Mr. Herrera loves watching football, traveling, and studying history. John is a long-time Raiders fan!  Congratulations John!

Priscina Harris

Reading Tutor

Priscina is our newest reading tutor.  Mrs. Harris has worked as a guest teacher in the Clark County School District over 11 years, and holds a BS degree in Business Management. Priscina is SylvanSync certified for early learning reading/writing programs, and math.  Mrs. Harris is a wonderful teacher who knows how to connect with her students.  Priscina is passionate about fostering literacy skills while making learning FUN AND ENGAGING for students!  Her goal:  Making sure students have a positive encounter with mastering old reading and writing skills and learning new ones.  Welcome aboard, Priscina!
