Meet Our Team

As Executive Director, Michelle leads the staff for Sylvan of Elizabeth City and surrounding areas. A former Kindergarten teacher and former director of other Sylvan locations, Michelle chose a career in the tutoring business because she wanted to make a difference with families and children on a personal level. She is a graduate of East Carolina University. When Michelle isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Lauren has worked in the Elizabeth City center for over 10 years doing a variety of things. Lauren is a teacher at Northside Elementary and she loves bringing her education knowledge to the students at Sylvan. She graduated from South University. When Lauren isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her husband.

Arlene has worked in the Elizabeth City and surrounding locations for over 6 years. Arlene is a retired teacher from Gates County where she spent 30 years changing the lives of students. She loves bringing her education knowledge to the students at Sylvan. She graduated from East Carolina University. When Arlene isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family.

Pam has worked in the Elizabeth City and surrounding locations for nearly 20 years. Pam is a retired teacher from Chowan County where she completed 30 years, changing the lives of students along the way. She loves teaching children to read and fostering their love of learning. She graduated from Carthage College. When Pam isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family and her dog, Benji.

Alexis has worked in the Elizabeth City location for about 6 years. Alexis is a teacher at Shawboro Elementary. She loves teaching and loves building relationships with her Sylvan students. Alexis graduated from East Carolina University. When Alexis isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family.

Barbara has worked in the Elizabeth City location for 4 years. Barbara is a math teacher at New Life Academy. She enjoys getting students excited about Math. Barbara graduated from Elizabeth City State University. When Barbara isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family.

Joan has worked in the Elizabeth City location for about 5 years. Joan enjoys spending her retirement with her Sylvan students. She is great at getting the most out of her students. When Joan isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family and friends.

Judy has worked in the Elizabeth City and surrounding locations for over 10 years. Judy retired from Perquimans County Schools. She enjoys connection with her Sylvan students. When Judy isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her spending time with her family.
