Ron Kautzman

Franchisee/Math Instructor

Director

Ron, along with his wife Char,  are the owners of Sylvan Learning Helena and have been with Sylvan since 1993. Ron manages franchisee responsibilities in addition to logging many tutoring hours with upper-level math students. He has a gift for working with students and making math make sense! Ron finds the greatest joy in helping students succeed and reach their full potential. When he isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him golfing or supporting the Bobcat Football team, Go Cats!

Char Kautzman

Center Director

Director

As Center Director, Char leads center operations for Sylvan of Helena. Her years with Sylvan provide invaluable expertise and knowledge for our center. She and her husband Ron, have been with Sylvan since 1993.  A former private school administrator, Char chose a career in the tutoring business because she and her husband could combine their love for teaching with owning a business. When Char isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her scrapbooking, reading, or golfing.

Karyl B.

Tutor

Karyl’s hometown is Big Sandy, where her earliest schooling, grades 1-8 happened.  Further junior high and high school education occurred in Butte and Billings.  College coursework for undergraduate and graduate levels took place in Billings, Bozeman, Dillon, and Missoula.
Her teaching experience began in Whitehall but lead her to Wyoming and Australia.  She has been fully and provisionally certified to teach K-12. Karyl’s Sylvan experience spans over two decades.  She considers herself a more traditional grammarian who particularly enjoys tutoring the reading, writing, and ACT Sylvan students.

Becky S.

Tutor

Becky was born and raised in Montana.  She was educated through the Great Falls public schools where her main interest was music.  After graduating from CM Russell High School in Great Falls, she attended the University of Montana and graduated with a degree in Elementary General Music. Later she attended (what is now) Montana State University-Northern in Havre.  Becky graduated with a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling with Elementary Education. She has spent many years in education, teaching throughout Montana and Arizona.  She worked at Sylvan in Mesa, AZ for several years.

Ingrid A.

Tutor

Ingrid is a graduate of Carroll College with a degree in Elementary Education and she is pursuing a master’s in Speech and Language Pathology.  Ingrid is originally from Minnesota but has lived in many places both in the US and abroad.  However, Montana is currently her home.  She has a heart for students and loves to watch as they grow through guidance, encouragement, and hard work.

Dene

Tutor

Dene’ is a graduate of The University of Montana Western with a degree in Elementary Education.  Dene’ is experienced in teaching grades pre-kindergarten through 5th.  Her passion and love for teaching is seeing students grow and blossom into successful people.  Dene’ was born and raised in Helena, MT.  In her downtime, you will see her hanging out with her friends and family.

Reagan was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana. He is currently attending Carroll College majoring in Math Education with a minor in data science. Reagan has a passion for the problem-solving aspect of mathematics. He enjoys helping students grow and develop their math skills and abilities. When he is not at Sylvan, he spends his time baking and watching sports.  Reagan joined the Helena Sylvan Learning Team in 2023.
