Our tutors and staff in Plainfield consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Plainfield know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Dan Callahan

Director
Dan has owned and managed the Plainfield Sylvan Learning Center since 2003. He has a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
Robert Buel
Center Director
Director
Bob oversees the educational integrity of our programs, managing and training our team of tutors in Plainfield. While Bob has many talents, he finds the greatest joy in Mathematics and ACT/SAT test prep tutoring. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and his teacher certification from Judson University. When Bob isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him playing the trombone, participating in his church orchestra, and teaching Sunday school.
Brandon Adjoumani
Teacher
Brandon works at a childcare center as a lead school age teacher, where he actively assists his students with their homework. In addition to this he leads his students in a plethora of activities that help foster their social-emotional growth. Brandon received his Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Sciences from National Louis University. Brandon hopes to start his own mentoring program one day. He offers free mentorship to any individual who needs that additional support. This is his way of paying it forward, on behalf of his own mentor who has and continues to help him for the past 10 years. When Brandon is not helping young minds grow, he enjoys volunteering/leading volunteer projects. He also enjoys cooking & baking. He’s not your “Gordan Ramsay” like chef, but it is a fun hobby of his.
Bruce Korensky
Teacher
Bruce is a special education teacher from Gary, IN with a gift for working with kids. While Bruce has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in teaching math and language arts. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Illinois State University. Bruce is continuing his studies at Governor’s State University. When Bruce isn’t at Sylvan you’ll find him fishing, playing and watching sports and studying history/politics.
Erica Kulovits
Teacher
Erica attended Northern Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Since then she has taught in the primary grades. Erica enjoys working at Sylvan because she is able to work with students of all ages and abilities. In Erica’s free time she enjoys spending time with her family and watching reality TV.
Kat Sgiers
Teacher
Kat is a math, speech, & drama teacher at Sandwich Middle School, but lives in Plainfield. She attended Brigham Young University in Utah. When Kat isn’t teaching or tutoring you will find her scrapbooking, reading, or planning a family activity with her husband and two daughters.
Alexcia Morin
Teacher
Alexcia attended Illinois State University receiving a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2023. As a new grad, she enjoys gaining experience with students who come to Sylvan for tutoring. While Alexcia has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in early reading tutoring. Her favorite grade to teach is second grade. When Alexcia isn’t at Sylvan you’ll find her spending time with family, taking care of her dog Leo, or cooking.
Wendy Mammosser
Teacher
Wendy loves nurturing the educational success in kids of all ages. She graduated from Governors State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Continuing with her education, she then graduated from the University of St. Francis with a Master of Science Degree in Education. With her passion for teaching, Wendy was able to nourish the mind, body, and soul of the students at Chaney-Monge School in Crest Hill. There she taught 6th – 8th grade language arts for almost 30 years. Now that she is retired, you will find her thoroughly enjoying her time at Sylvan, playing with her 2 grandsons, learning to play the harp, and creating one of a kind fused glass projects.
Mark Hietikko
Teacher
Mark is a teacher in Plainfield, Illinois with a gift for working with kids. While Mark has many tutoring talents, he finds the greatest joy in tutoring math and reading. He has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Saint Francis and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Olivet University. When Mark is not at Sylvan, you will find him drawing, painting or playing guitar.
