Our tutors and staff in Lancaster and Palmdale consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Lancaster and Palmdale know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Carrie Tapia
Director/Owner
Carrie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education in Math. She started with Sylvan in October of 2013 as a math tutor. In 2017, she became Director of Education. In 2019, she became the Center Director. In March of 2021, she and her husband purchased the Sylvan she was currently with. “Being a Franchisee is such an enjoyment.”
Alicia
Director of Education
Alicia became the Director of Education for Sylvan of Lancaster and Palmdale in 2022, after starting with the center as a teacher in 2020. She has loved working with children and teenagers since finding her passion when she entered an Educational Studies program in college, which inspired her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary English. Alicia grew up in Lancaster and is excited to have the opportunity to help students in her community.
Joanna Buchholz
Tutor
Joanna is a math, reading, and writing tutor in Lancaster/Palmdale, CA with a gift for working with kids. While Joanna has many tutoring talents, she finds the greatest joy in tutoring reading. She will graduate Suma Cum Laude from Linfield College in Oregon City, CA. When Joanna isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her teaching drama at Yucca Elementary.
