We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Sara
Center Director
Director
Sara is passionate about education and committed to ensuring the highest standards of learning at Sylvan of Granite Bay. As the Director, she leads and develops a dynamic team of tutors, ensuring that each student receives personalized support to unlock their full potential.
Her journey with Sylvan began as a mom searching for the perfect tutoring center for her daughters. That search quickly turned into a mission to bring Sylvan’s transformative programs to the entire community. With a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University (and a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health), Sara understands the critical role K–12 education plays in shaping a child’s future success.
Beyond Sylvan, Sara enjoys spending quality time with her family, indulging in her love for interior design, reading, gourmet food, and travel. She’s also a devoted pet mom to her sweet ragdoll cat and her playful green-cheek conure, Kiwi Boba.

Luke
Sylvan Certified Teacher
Luke has great joy in teaching and opening students’ eyes to the truths of the world around them. With a Master of Arts in mathematics, Luke’s favorite subject to teach and discuss with students is mathematics but also loves teaching sciences and other subjects. Luke has interest in most things, so in his spare time he is often trying to learn more about the world and people. He also loves playing and writing music and has a big creative side. Luke also teaches high school math and is also a professor at William Jessup University.

Madison
Sylvan Certified Teacher
Madison has a bachelor’s degree in Managerial Economics from UC Davis and is currently completing a master’s degree in education. Her favorite subject in school was history and she loves to learn new facts! In her spare time, she is usually reading, swimming, or spending time with family.

Harsha
Sylvan Certified Teacher
Harsha is an avid learner, who believes that teaching is the best way to learn. She graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelors of Science in Neurobiology. During her time as an undergraduate she was involved in the SEISMIC SELC grant, an NSF-funded initiative which worked towards addressing issues of inequity at higher-education institutions. She enjoys interacting with students and understanding their areas of struggle. In her off-time, she loves to read and can be found in the library or a coffee shop.

Sid
Sylvan Certified Teacher
Sid brings a robust STEM background, with a Bachelor’s in Biomolecular Engineering and Bioinformatics, and hands-on experience developing innovative medical and tech solutions. His expertise spans science, math, and reading, demonstrated by his technical writing for a STEM-focused magazine and projects like a machine-learning program for heart and lung sound identification. Passionate about teaching, Sid specializes in STEM areas such as Coding and Robotics, with proficiency in Python, R, and other coding languages. He is eager to provide unique support to students in math, science, and technology, aligning perfectly with Sylvan’s mission to inspire and educate. In his free time, Sid enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring art.

Isabela
Sylvan Certified Tutor
Isabela holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a second major in Spanish from the University of Portland, showcasing her strong academic foundation. Her experience includes serving as a writing assistant and workshop leader, where she excelled in guiding students through problem-solving, study techniques, and essay organization. Additionally, Isabela has supported students in math as a tutor for the America Reads program.
Fluent in Spanish, Isabela is well-equipped to assist bilingual students, offering personalized learning experiences and Spanish language tutoring. Her dedication to fostering confidence and success in students makes her a fantastic addition to our team. Outside of work, Isabela enjoys playing volleyball.

Ed Lloyd
Sylvan Certified Tutor
With a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and over 40 years of teaching experience, Ed brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Sylvan. He has taught Social Studies and Action Civics, guiding students with innovative lesson plans and personalized support. Ed has excelled in creating innovative learning experiences, including student participation in a presidential election voting process, a Zoom call with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and leading three Action Civics showcases. His school earned a Silver Medal Certification for ranking in the top ten statewide for Action Civics. Plus, Ed has coached 36 chess team champions! He now brings his dedication to fostering a love of learning to help Sylvan students excel in math and reading.
