Ace

Centre Director

As the Centre Director for the Ranchlands location, Ace administers assessments and manages scheduling and student programs. Before becoming a director, he worked as a tutor for over 10 years, as an ESL teacher in Toronto, and as a head teacher in Busan, South Korea. He has worked with kindergarten to adult learners. Ace holds a Master of Education in Social Justice Education specialized in Comparative, International, and Development Education from the University of Toronto. He also has a CELTA and a Bachelors in Justice Studies. When Ace isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him walking his dogs, running, playing his ukulele, singing, hiking or reading a book on top of a mountain.

Aleta

Tutor/Teacher

Aleta is a charismatic teacher with a passion for helping students discover their potential. For the past few years, Aleta has been a teacher for students in Kindergarten all the way through to Grade 11. She not only has a Bachelor of Education, but also a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Career and Technology Studies (CTS). While she specializes in the Arts, Aleta likes teaching Humanities and Study Strategies. As a previous student of Sylvan Learning herself, we’re proud to have her back with us as a teacher/tutor. When not at Sylvan, you’ll find Aleta golfing, disc golfing, teaching yoga, or spending quality time with loved ones.

Derick

Tutor/Teacher

Meet one of our tutors at Sylvan, Derick Young. Derick has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Calgary, and his enthusiasm for math and physics is evident in the way he approaches tutoring. He’s a great complement to our team because of his knowledge in these areas and his commitment to seeing students thrive. When Derick isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find him coding or playing volleyball.

Fikayo

Tutor/Teacher

Fikayo is a versatile teacher, who is able to teach almost all grade levels and subjects. Though he specializes in Math, Physics, and Chemistry. He also mentors high school students about time management and general life skills. When not at Sylvan, he likes to work on sustainability projects.

Nagwa

Tutor/Teacher

Nagwa is a retired surgeon, with a background in education. She has a gift for working with children of all ages in the Sylvan reading, math and study skills programs.  While Nagwa has many talents, she has special expertise in tutoring high level biology and putting young students at ease in our literacy program.   She finds greatest joy in seeing her students grasp the meaning of the material.   Nagwa is fluent in Arabic and when she isn’t at Sylvan, you’ll find her teaching English to newcomers from all over the world.

Parveer

Tutor/Teacher

Parveer loves working with children of all ages, especially learners with special needs. For the past few years, she’s worked as an Education Assistant. After receiving her degree in Community Rehab and Disability Studies, she is now pursuing her after-degree in Education to become a special education teacher. She loves working to help students succeed in their learning environment and believes in the power of a growth mindset for students at any age level. When not at Sylvan, Parveer is constantly crafting, skating, or working in various classroom settings to constantly grow her knowledge in the area.
